Description

An opportunity for an Environmental Fate Regulatory Scientist or Environmental Risk Assessor to join a successful and expanding environmental risk assessment consultancy. The role will focus on providing expertise in the field of fate and effects of chemicals in the environment, and the associated regulatory affairs. You will be working with and be guided by highly experienced experts – an excellent opportunity.

This will be a varied and challenging role. Key duties will include providing environmental modelling expertise to help assess the impacts of chemicals (eg agrochemicals, pesticides, biocides, veterinary medicine and general chemicals) on the environment; regulatory environmental risk assessment evaluations utilising relevant guidance documents and a variety of computational / mathematical modelling tools (e.g. FOCUS models, EUSES etc.); and preparation of assessment reports and dossiers for regulatory authorities. You will also undertake data analyses and interpretations, literature review and searches for individual projects, write scientific justifications and explanations to justify product use as safe (or otherwise) and coordinate and monitor the placement of environmental studies with external contract laboratories. You will help to maintain and build the team’s scientific credibility in environmental fate and behaviour and environmental risk assessment by attending conferences and face-to-face meetings and, keep up to date with current EU chemical legislation and relevant guidance documents.

Applications are invited from candidates with an MSc or PhD in a numerate scientific discipline e.g. chemistry, maths, biology (or similar) along with experience of computer simulation modelling and/or experience in environmental fate and behaviour and/or ecotoxicology of chemicals, preferably in a regulatory context. Ideally you will have a good understanding of risk assessment approaches, an understanding of the data requirements for the models along with the ability to interpret data. You will be a good communicator, be able to fit into a small team of experts, have critical thinking and problem-solving ability, strong analytical skills, be diligent and self-motivated and, able to work towards fixed deadlines.
